Highlights from our Recent Meeting...

A beautiful spring morning brought out a large crowd to the first Central Florida POC Network meeting held on Friday, April 2 at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. 

 

Stacie Krick Evans, Pharm.D Orlando Regional Medical Center, presented "Drugs and Coagulation at Point of Care" and reviewed the classes of drugs used to anticoagulate patients, how they work, how they are monitored, used, effect on ACT, "cocktails", and target times, giving special consideration to heparin and coumadin.

and providing a great setting for the meeting.

Mary Jo Grodsky Orlando Regional Health Care Systems (left) and Edwina Szelag of Health-First Inc. chaired the meeting. Herald Walden of Florida Hospital (far right) was also part of the team that made this group, and meeting, a reality.

Edwina Szelag facilitated the roundtable discussion on the "Basics of POCT" while... ...Mary Jo Grodsky led a roundtable 
group on "POC Coagulation".

Other discussions during the business meeting focused on upcoming meetings, volunteers to host meetings and topics for presentation.  These summaries will also be posted here soon.


Save the Date!  Plans are currently underway for an October 15, 2004 Point-of-Care Conference in Cocoa Beach.  Details will be posted on this web site as well as the Florida East Coast web site as they become available.
