Treasurers, Shelia Cruthis and Kim Ballister, along
with Marti Strickland obviously had great fun
planning and hosting our fall meeting. The theme of
the day was “Tailgate Party” and all were encouraged
to where their favorite team jerseys. Many teams
were represented.
While enjoying a delicious breakfast sponsored by
Biosite Inverness, Jill Pegram, Laboratory Director
Moses Cone Health System, extended a warm welcome to
the group members.
Mission Statement:
Sherry Gant asked for input and compiled a mission
statement for our group:
The purpose of the NC POC Network is to form a
collaborative network of Point-of-Care Coordinators
who face the unique challenges presented by the
growth of Point of Care testing. Members willingly
share an open exchange of program practices, ideas,
and adherence to regulatory guidelines.

Lunch
Break:
Lunch was provided by Roche Diagnostics and RNA
Medical. We all enjoyed tailgating and checking out
the vendor fair.
Afternoon Session:
Rodney Stewart, Lead inspection Specialist, from the
CAP, gave an enlightening view of CAP regulations as
applied to the POCT realm. As we all know, this is
complicated at best with interpretation varying
greatly. Bottom line, CLIA ’88 still rules our
world. And we, as POC coordinators, struggle daily
to comply with these regulations as well as generate
innovative ideas to be on the forefront of
technology.
Spring 2009 Meeting:
We look forward to our spring meeting Friday March 27th,
2009 at Carolina Medical Center –Union in Monroe,
NC.
