Summary: Today, the
focus of healthcare is on patient
safety. Errors introduced anywhere in
the total testing process –
pre-analytical, analytical and/or
post-analytical -- can compromise
patient safety. Consequently quality
management of the entire testing process
is essential. However, to really
improve patient safety, we need to look
outside the traditional three phases of
testing and create a new physician
paradigm to take maximum advantage of
POCT’s capabilities to better serve the
patient.Objectives:
-
Identify common errors that
occur with POCT.
-
Describe common POCT errors and
challenges.
-
Discuss suggested strategies and
planning tips to avoid these
POCT errors and challenges.
-
Integrate session information to
create an appropriate quality
management plan for your POCT
situation to better ensure
quality POCT results and patient
safety.
