About our
Presenters:
Jean
Ball, MBA, MT(HHS),
MLT(ASCP) is a certified Medical Technologist
with over thirty years of experience in
laboratory medicine. Before coming to the
College of American Pathologists (CAP), she
worked in hospital and clinic settings in every
area of the clinical laboratory, in both bench
technologist and supervisory capacities. Jean
has also spent many hours in the classroom,
teaching in medical technology and business
arenas.
Jean
Hood, BS, MT (AMT), has been in the
laboratory field for over 20 years. She
received her AAS in Medical Laboratory
Technology from the University of Rio Grande in
Rio Grande, Ohio and her BS in Clinical
Laboratory Science from the University of
Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her role as a
laboratorian has included staff technologist
positions and various management roles including
installing laboratory information systems.
During the past 3 years as a College of American
Pathologist Inspection Specialist she has
performed over 200 inspections. She has
presented on Point of Care topics utilizing the
internet, and live speaking events for South
Carolina Point of Care and at the July 2010
American Medical Technologists National
Convention.
Dottie
Hautman, BS, MT(ASCP) SC, received her
Bachelor of Science degree at Purdue
University. She completed her MT training at
The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio
achieving ASCP certification. She earned a
Specialist in Chemistry certification from ASCP
in 1997. Ms. Hautman has over 35 years of
experience in all core laboratory areas, as a
chemistry technical specialist, core laboratory
supervisor, and working for an integrated
delivery network (System) laboratory. She began
her career at the College of American
Pathologists (CAP) in 2007 as an Inspection
Specialist in the Laboratory Accreditation
Program (LAP). Her training includes a
Certificate in Team Learning from Xavier
University, Lean Process Design, and ISO 17025
lead auditor course. In her role at the CAP she
performs LAP inspections, provides technical
information for accredited laboratories and
works with the CAP Checklist Commissioner and
Scientific Resource Committees to assist with
checklist revisions. Ms. Hautman has presented
at regional CAP Inspection Education Seminars
and Regional POCT committee meetings. She is an
associate member of ASCP and AACC.
Sue
Donatell, BS, MT(ASCP), received her
degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse
and has worked in laboratory medicine for over
30 years. She worked in microbiology at Regions
Hospital in St. Paul, MN for 15 years and the
rest of her career as a generalist, research
coordinator, POL laboratory manager, and
hospital laboratory manager. She has served as
a safety officer, POC coordinator, QM
coordinator, and instructor for a Medical
Technologist program. Sue joined the College of
American Pathologists in 2005 as an Inspection
Specialist. As an Inspection Specialist, Sue
inspects small community hospital laboratories,
assists volunteer inspection teams including
systems, and performs non-routine, complaint,
and validation inspections. Sue has
participated in over 400 CAP inspections.
