"Pros and Cons of Rapid

Infectious Disease Testing"

Norman Moore, PhD | Bio

Director, Scientific Affairs for Infectious Diseases, Alere

Many tests are available that can give diagnostic information in minutes which can aid in directing therapy.  One of the more common rapid options is lateral flow technology which is built on antibody/antigen interactions.  Additionally, newer molecular amplification options are now allowing testing to become more rapid. Rapid results allow for better directed therapy. Learning objectives will include understanding the basis for how the immunological tests work; understanding the pros and cons of rapid infectious disease testing; and defining what rapid test results mean in multiple disease states
