POINT-OF-CARE LABORATORY TESTING

AUTOVERIFICATION POLICY

The Point-of-Care Testing program employs autoverification of whole blood glucose results from the AccuChek HQs.  No results are released by the AccuChek HQ unless two levels of controls have been run and accepted every 24 hours of patient testing.  Results are passed on to the SunQuest LIS via the RALS-G data management system.  This data management system receives glucose test results from the meters and regularly exports those results to the AccuChek HDM database and the laboratory information system.  The Point-of-Care Testing Coordinator is able to define acceptable parameters for the autoverification of these test results. Results that pass all criteria will automatically be transferred to the LIS and onto the patient’s chart.

Exclusion parameters include:

OPERATOR ERROR
REPEAT TEST
SENT TO LAB

These whole blood glucose results will be flagged and sent to the RALS system for review by the Point-of-Care Testing Medical Technologist before release of the result into the laboratory information system.

On a monthly basis, a minimum of a day’s worth of patient results will be printed from the RALS-G data management system and from the laboratory’s information system (using worksheet “BGL1”) to confirm that results are going across the interface correctly.
