OVERVIEW Sepsis and SIRS (Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) affect millions worldwide. The sepsis mortality rate is estimated at 25% with higher mortality rates in those who progress to sepsis induced multiple organ failure and/or acute respiratory distress syndrome. This presentation will cover causes, diagnosis and management of sepsis and related conditions. The recommendations of the international “Surviving Sepsis Campaign” for 2008 and 2010 compliance study are central to the presentation. Special emphasis will be given to laboratory considerations and should be useful for those involved in POC testing and care of septic patients. AGENDA 9:00AM
