Summary: 

The CAP POC checklist is a commonly used checklist during inspections.  POC departments are usually managed by the laboratory, but testing is by non-lab personnel.  There are usually some growing pains as lab and non-lab staff learn how to interact with each other and learn what is expected of each other.
 

Objectives:  

After listening to this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • List the CAP requirements for waived and non-waived testing

  • Explain new of changing requirements for POCT

  • Understand how best to prepare your POCT for inspection

  • Recognize common POCT deficiencies and what you need to do to correct

About our Presenter:  Sue Donatell received her degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and has worked in laboratory medicine for over 30 years.  She worked in microbiology at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN for 15 years and the rest of her career as a generalist, research coordinator, POL laboratory manager, and hospital laboratory manager.  She has served as a safety officer, POC coordinator, QM coordinator, and instructor for a Medical Technologist program.  Sue joined the College of American Pathologists in 2005 as an Inspection Specialist.  As an Inspection Specialist, Sue inspects small community hospital laboratories, assists volunteer inspection teams including systems, and performs non-routine, complaint, and validation inspections.   Sue has participated in over 400 CAP inspections.
