Extracorporeal Life Support Basics (ECMO)

Objectives:

The participant will be able to describe the historical
development of extracorporeal life support.

The participant will be able to describe the clinical
indications for the use of & the types of patients that
qualify for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

The participant will be able to describe venoarterial
and venovenous ECMO support.
-
The participant will be able to explain the UNMH ECMO
program structure and the purpose and function of the
Extracorporeal Life Support Organization.
-
The participant will be able to explain the ECMO pump
components and the blood flow path.
-
The participant will be able to describe the
complications related to ECMO.
-
The participant will be able to explain Hantavirus
Cardiopulmonary Syndrome and the use of ECMO.
-
The participant will be able to explain the role of POCT
at the ECMO bedside.
