POC Testing and Reimbursement

Objectives:

  1. Identify various settings/sites of POC testing and discuss scenarios for performance and reimbursement

  2. Discuss use of billing modifiers and appropriateness for reporting

  3. List coding for drug testing and describe implications for non compliance.

Extracorporeal Life Support Basics (ECMO)

Karen Milligan RNC, BSN

Objectives:

  1. The participant will be able to describe the historical development of extracorporeal life support.

  2. The participant will be able to describe the clinical indications for the use of & the types of patients that qualify for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

  3. The participant will be able to describe venoarterial and venovenous ECMO support.

  4. The participant will be able to explain the UNMH ECMO program structure and the purpose and function of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization.

  5. The participant will be able to explain the ECMO pump components and the blood flow path.

  6. The participant will be able to describe the complications related to ECMO.

  7. The participant will be able to explain Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome and the use of ECMO.

  8. The participant will be able to explain the role of POCT at the ECMO bedside.

  3. Improve their online communications (i.e., “Netiquette”) to most efficiently and effectively communicate their needs and insure that true communication has occurred.

  4. Explain the cardiac point of care’s impact on NSTEMI and risk stratification.

  5. Contrast the difference of STEMI and NSTEMI in the ED environment.

  6. Summarize the process improvement in the lab and hospital, as it relates to high sensitive troponin.
