Educational Portion of Meeting

The subject of the educational portion of the meeting was network and bar code systems as they relate to point of care testing. 

Kevin Brenneman and Keith Ensor from York Hospital spoke about hospital network and how information gets from a POCT device to the LIS including installation and maintenance of a POC data collection system.

Ken Varteresian from Intermec Technologies spoke about various barcode symbologies and technologies as well as how barcodes are enablers for patient care.

Business Meeting

Celebrations and Successes-  Rick Lebo announced that Skip Lentz would be retiring from Nova Biomedical and that this would be Skip’s last meeting as an employee of Nova.

June 21st Meeting
Whittaker Center is not available on June 21st so we will need to find a new venue or change the meeting date. Those present decided to chose a new venue. Andi Stoner will check into holding the meeting at General Sutter’s Inn in Lititz. Jen Mixell will check into Indian Echo Caverns and the Hummelstown Railroad as possible sites. The topic will be through-put and process flow in the emergency department. Wellspan will have someone from their ED speak on the topic and Abbott will have their ED specialist speak on the topic.

September 20th Meeting
Cindy Graves will be hosting this meeting at Gettysburg Hospital and the topic will be regulations. The morning session will be on JCAHO continuous survey readiness and Marcy Anderson has agreed to call Sharon Ehrmyer who is a consultant on JCAHO regulations. The afternoon session will be a CAP audioconference on inspecting POCT and Cindy Graves has agreed to call CAP to register for that session since the meeting will be held at her facility.

December 6th Meeting
Marcy Anderson, Stacey Cerminaro and JoAnn Brehm have agreed to host this meeting. The topic will be staff education and nursing competency as well as the new JCAHO and CAP competency regulations.
