CPT codes:

Test Methodology: Native or citrated whole blood glass bead activated clotting time, fibrin formation, and clot retraction results per each test

Units in which test result is reported: Seconds

Fibrin formation rate (Clot Rate) (Clot Signal units per minute) (the rate of change in the viscosity measurement. Numerical platelet function result pending FDA approval.

Sample Volume: 0.4ml

Time to result: 100 seconds normal. Higher for anticoagulated samples. Platelet function results in 10 to 15 minutes.

CLIA Classification:

Other: Anticoagulant management and platelet function assessment in single test.  The gbACT+ and the SonACT are both activated clotting time tests. They differ in the type and quantity of activation. The type and quantity of activator affect clot formation. The SonACT test is our historical test designed for monitoring high levels of heparin management (like extracorporeal bypass surgery). The SonACT test uses celite as an activator. The gbACT+ is a newer test designed for general use up to moderate heparin levels (less than would be used in cardiovascular surgery). The gbACT+ uses glass beads as an activator. In our naming convention the gb refers to glass beads, the ACT is the type of test (activated clotting time), and the "+" refers to the fact that addtional platelet information is available with this test.
